District level interaction and introductory programme in Bara

One day district level Interaction and Introductory programme has been conducted by Mithila Wildlife Trust (MWT) in the Bara Chamber of Commerce, Kalaiya with the stakeholders of the district. The programme is supported by Zoological Society of London (ZSL). The programme was chaired by Mr. Om Prakash Giri, district representative of MWT, Chief Guest was SP, Bara, Mr. Narendra Upreti where guests were from Zoological Society of London, Parsa Wildlife Reserve, Buffer Zone Consumer Management Committee, Amleshwar Consumer Committee and retired warden and MWT Board Member, Mr. Neelambar Mishra. The active participation from major stakeholders, presence of GO and NGO representatives and media personnel were really encouraging to us during programme. Mr. Dev Narayan Mandal, Chairman, MWT presented One hour presentation on the programmes and activities being carried out by the organisation and also the proposed activities in the Bara district were clearly explained to all the stakeholders. With an aim of conservation education in the community schools of Buffer Zone, all the proposed activities will be centered in the Buffer Zone of Parsa Wildlife Reserve in the district. Main focus will be to connect students with the conservation works of Parsa Wildlife Reserve. Eco-teacher, Mr. Kavin Kumar Yadav from Shri Napal National Higher Secondary School, Pathlaiya presented the present works they have been carrying through their eco-club and our part to strengthen the eco-clubs in the areas. The method to prepare school bag with the waste plastic bags was highly impressive to all. We are highly grateful to SP, Bara – Narendra Upreti sir for his valuable suggestions including the need to maintain data of our works which seems to be lacking and the need to focus on the alternative livelihood of the dependent community to reduce pressure on the forest. We are also thankful to Sh. Ashok Ram sir, Sahayak Sanrakshan Adhikrit, PWR for his remarks that MWT is more likely a Service oriented organisation which serves the wild animals as well as human being reducing the casualties from human-wildlife conflict. We are thankful to everybody for managing time for the programme out of their busy schedule. Hope to have a long term relationship with all during conservation of natural resources and wildlife in Bara district as well.

ONE YEAR OF COOPERATION BETWEEN NCELL AND MWT

Ncell and MWT signed an agreement on 8th July 2015 to work together for One year for “Awareness Campaign on Environment Conservation & Protection”. The program “Awareness Campaign on Environment Conservation & Protection” was funded by Ncell under its’ CSR activities. The carried activities are 1. Eco-club formation, 2. Debate on “Need of eco-club in schools”, 3. Painting competition on “Status of Dhanushadham Protected Forest – 10 years past and imagination of the development in coming 10 years”, 4. Mithila Cultural programme (a. Mithila Natak, b. Jhari Jhari, c. Jhijhiya and d. Dhol Pipahi/Sahanai), 5. 15 days Mithila Painting training for 20 students, and 6. Conservation education painting in Mithila Aart in Four schools surrounding Dhanushadham Protected Forest. Mithila Painting also included Dhanush temple, the heart of Dhanushadham municipality. Lacking linkage with the market is one of major reasons, Madheshi community discontinue the business of indigenous skill. Most of the training provided here are just to train people with different skill to produce the products at home but never trained to sell their product in the market to get maximum benefit out of their training & skill. We have tried to link them with the market people. Student will prepare different Mithila Paintings in their home, and an organization working on the same will sell products in the market for them. The idea is the sustainability of the program, to provide them with permanent home-based business and to reduce school drop-out due to poverty. Eco-clubs have been formed in 4 schools, Debate competition & painting competition in 4 schools, Mithila Cultural Programme in 4 school and Mithila painting training for students of 5 schools and Mushahar community. Jhijhiya, Jhari Jhari and Dhol Pipahi/Sahanai is part of preserving Maithili community’s indigenous culture to engage the tourists of home stay around Dhanushadham Protected Forest, proposed Dhanushadham Biological Unit. We heartily thank Ncell for supporting us in the activities to connect school students in conservation and development of Dhanushadham Protected Forest and to prepare baseline for preparing environmental conservation agents in the society. Special thanks to school management team, teachers, students, local communities, Ilaka Forest Office, Ilaka Police Office, Armed Police Force base camp, Dhanushadham Municipality Office and all supporters and well wishers of Mithila Wildlife Trust, for helping us implement the programme successfully. As continuity of the programmes, we’ve coordinated with Department of Forest (DOF) where they promised to provide different activities for eco-club members, added 15 days extra training for Mithila painting training participants which is already started in the hall of Dhanushadham Ilaka Forest Office.

ZSL Nepal and MWT Nepal signs agreement for Conservation Education in Extension Area of Parsa Wildlife Reserve

Mithila Wildlife Trust (MWT) Nepal and Zoological Society of London (ZSL) Nepal signed an agreement to work together for Conservation Education Program in the Extension area and Buffer Zone of Parsa Wildlife Reserve (PWR) in Bara District. Facilitated by Respected Dr. Bhagwan Raj Dahal from ZSL, the Agreement signing ceremony was conducted in the office of Parsa Wildlife Reserve in presence of respected RD Forest, Dr. Akhileshwar Lal Karna, ZSL Country Director, Dr. Hem Sagar Baral, PWR Warden Sir, Nepal Army PWR base chief and Ex-warden PWR, Sh. Neelambar Mishra ji. Focused on conservation education, community awareness activities and stakeholder’s interactions, MWT will work in the buffer zone and extension area of PWR in Bara district for One year. Heartly thanks to everybody, specially to Regional Director, Dr. Akhileshwar Lal Karna, ZSL Country Director, Dr. Hem Sagar Baral, PWR Warden, Yuvraj Regmi and all well wishers of Mithila Wildlife Trust. We promise to bring the change in attitude of the society towards wild animals and forest, as we did successfully in the buffer zone of Dhanushadham Protected Forest and to prepare a generation of Consrevation Agents through Eco-club and plantation activities in the schools.

15 days Mithila Painting Training organized (मिथीला चित्रकला सम्बन्धि १५ दिने तालिम सञ्चालन)

धनुषाधाम, २०७३ जेष्ठ २३ – मिथिला वाइल्डलाईफ ट्रष्ट, धनुषाले धनुषाधाम ईलाका वन कार्यालयमा मिथिला चित्रकला सम्बन्धि १५ दिने तालिम सञ्चालन गरेको छ । मिथिला वाइल्डलाईफ ट्रष्टले विगत ३ बर्ष देखि धनुषाधाम संरक्षित वनको संरक्षण र विकासका लागि विभिन्न किसीमका कार्यक्रमहरु सञ्चालन गर्दै आईरहेकोमा उक्त संरक्षणमा विद्यार्थीहरुको सहभागिता सुनिश्चित गर्न NCELL को सहयोगमा २०७२ साल पुष र माघ मसान्तमा धनुषाधाम संरक्षित वनको चारै तिरका विद्यालयहरुमा ईको–क्लब गठन गरी वक्तृत्वकला र चित्रकला प्रतियोगिता सञ्चालन गरेको व्यहोरा सर्ब विदितै छ । हाल NCELL कै आर्थिक सहयोगमा हामीले धनुषाधाम संरक्षित वनको सबै भन्दा नजिक बसोवास गर्ने मुसहर समुदायका महिला, ईको–क्लव मार्फत सञ्चालन गरिएको चित्रकला प्रतियोगितामा पहिलो अथवा दोस्रो स्थान सुनिश्चित गरेका विद्यार्थीहरु तथा धनुषाधाम नगरपालिका भित्र बसोवास गर्ने अन्य पिछडिएका परिवारका सदस्यहरुलाई मिथिला चित्रकलाको तालिम दिई उनीहरुकै माध्यमले वरिपरिका विद्यालयहरु तथा सार्वजनिक स्थलका पर्खालहरुमा वन, वातावरण तथा वन्यजन्तु संरक्षण सम्बन्धि जनचेतनामुलक चित्रहरु कोर्ने उद्देश्य बोकेर सञ्चालन भएका यस कार्यक्रममा १३ जना सहभागीहरु रहेका छन् भने यो तालिम आज देखि २०७३ अषाढ ५ गते सम्म चल्नेछ । यस तालिमले मुसहर समुदायका महिलाहरुलाई वनमै पूर्ण आश्रित नभई रोजगारीका अन्य विकल्प पनि तयार हुनुका साथै उनीहरुले आफ्ना घरमै तयार पारेका चित्र बाहिर बजारमा बिक्रीका लागि समेत पहल गरिएकोले यसले उनीहरुको आर्थीक अवस्थामा समेत सुधार हुने बिश्वास छ ।
