Couple of days back illegal tree logging was identified by Nepal Forest Dept. and MWT team inside the Dhanusha Protected Forest. Thirty feet two Acacia sp. was logged by the poachers during mid night and transported using a tractor. New RFO Mr. Shankarnarayan Jah and other forest officials with the help of MWT team and APF started restless search for the poachers and the removed trees. Though we were able to arrest a person who was really involved in this case was suppose to release in 24 hours as we didn’t got the removed tree and solid evidence against him.
Around 36th hour we were able to collect the information from our informers about the logged trees and when we reached there with full team, initially we were surprised about the matter, but when MWT enforcement team and other forest person searched in the water of nearby pond (Phokri), all the logged tree pieces were hidden inside the water. We removed all pieces from the water and uploaded in a tractor around night 9.30.pm. to DPF office. As the news spread that we recovered all the pieces of logged trees, many of the suspecting poachers vanished from their village.
This is an initiatiative taken by Courageous RFO Mr. Shankarnarayan Jah, MWT, and APF of Dhanusha, which nobody had initiated for last 25 years which made poachers and other peoples to exploit their natural resource in an unmanaged way. This is first time that within 48 hours all the reality of poachers and the incidents comes into public to be cautious in the future. This is really an appreciative work done by Nepal Forest Department , MWT and APF.
