A one day program organized for interaction and field visit by local politicians, youth and residents of Dhanushadham to highlight the importance of Illicit Felling Free and Open Grazing Free Zone. It’s really encouraging to get support from local people in conservation and development of Dhanushadham Protected Forest. We are grateful to all helping hands who are supporting us to maintain Illicit felling and Zeero grazing in Dhanushadham Protected Forest since last 2 years. Spending time in the forest, discussing and showing them achievement of continuous community based conservation since last Two years with the residence of buffer zone motivates them as well as encourages us for the continuity. Expression of Interest for Investment in Dhanushadham Protected Forest

Dhanushadham Protected Forest Council published an “Expression of Interest” notice in Nagrik Daily Newspaper on 17th April 2016. It’s a great chance for individual, private & public organizations, NGOs, INGOs and Banks to invest in Biological Unit (Biological Park), the first of its’ kind in Nepal. Interested investors and donors are requested to contact within 30 days to be part in developmental process of Dhanushadham Protected Forest as a Biological Unit.

A MEGA STEP TOWARDS FUTURE OF JANAKPUR

For the first time in the history, Janakpur is jeweled with the development which will bound regular tourists to spend more time and attract new tourists to the area. Several records show that Janakpur receives around 10 Lakh (One million) tourists every year. They visit Janaki temple in Janakpur and Dhanush temple at Dhanushadham and return back within no time lacking the tourism spot in the area. It is natural that if we visit a place for half an hour we carry fast food or readymade food with us instead of staying or having food in the hotels and restaurants at the place. Janakpur is facing the same. Instead of getting benefited, Janakpur is used as a dust bin to throw plastic bags or packing materials and food wastes carried with the tourist. One will be highly excited to know that the tourists visiting to Janakpur and Dhanushadham will be able to spend much time here. Animal enclosures are being constructed in the forest situated at Dhanushadham, near Dhanush temple (20 KM North–east from Janakpur). Snake enclosure and turtle enclosure is constructed as part of proposed Dhanushadham Biological Unit inside Dhanushadham Protected Forest. Though the plan has been approved by Government of Nepal in 2069 B.S. (2013 AD), it is unable to drag the attention of Government or other donor agencies. The development is being carried out with the small-small contributions from individuals of Dhanusha district, donations of Mithila Wildlife Trust and budget of Dhanushadham Protected Forest by Department of Forest, Government of Nepal. Some of the wild animals rescued by Mithila Wildlife Trust will be housed in the enclosures for exhibition where most of them are directly released in the wild. We believe that this will encourage local residents and tourist of the park to conserve wildlife. You are heartily invited to visit Dhanushadham Protected Forest and guide us through the developments. You can also contribute in the developments. HUMANITARIAN WORKS FOR GORKHA EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS

Entire Nepal was shaken with the earthquake of 7.8 Magnitude on 25th April 2015 at 11:56 AM and major aftershock of 7.3 Magnitude on 12th May 2015 at 12:51PM. Around 9 Thousand casualties and 22 Thousand injuries were noted. Financially, it damaged about 25% GDP of the Himalayan Country, Nepal. Nepal is still getting aftershocks of the worst natural disaster. It’s epic center was in the east of Lamjung district. The earthquake is named as Gorkha Earthquake. It destroyed major UNESCO World Heritage site of the country. One portion of Janaki temple in Janakpur is also damaged. Twelve districts of the country (out of 75) are highly affected where our district, Dhanusha is one of less affected districts. In this worst situation, we decided to support the earthquake victims with their basic requirements. In addition to our personal contributions, we along with youth, social workers, youth clubs and villagers collected the basic requirement just after the disaster like Tarpaulins, Bedding materials, Noodles, Biscuits, Rice, Dal, Potato, Onion, Salt and first aid medicines. All materials were transported in a vehicle to one of highly affected villages, Pavoti of Dolkha district. We distributed the materials to them directly, so that, the victims receives the benefit directly. As monsoon has reached to doorstep, it is great challenge to provide them a secure shelter as soonest as possible. So, please contribute from your side to any of your known person/organization working directly in the field to construct the shelters.

Inauguration of Snake Enclosure and Cleaning of Dhanush Temple Area on occasion of Wildlife Week 2072 and New Year 2072.

On occasion of 20th Wildlife Week 2072 and New Year 2072, Department of Forest, Dhanusha in support of Dhanushadham Protected Forest Council and Save The Historical Janakpur, Dhanushadham Mass-cleaning Programme, Interaction Programme and Awareness Rally was organized at Dhanushdham in chairmanship of CDO, Dhanusha. APF Chief and members, Civil Police with members, Nepal Army,  District Forest Officer including Forest Department staff, Save the Historical Janakpur including members, DPF Council members, Mithila Wildlife Trust & members, Media personals including Patrakar Mahasangh Dhanusha chief, all political parties and so many other members participated in the great occasion. Dhanush Temple area, Dhanush Pond area and Ramjanki Temple area in front of Dhanush Temple were cleaned. Mr. Krishna Prashad Dhungana, CDO, Dhanusha inaugurated the Snake Enclosure which was designed and constructed by Mithila Wildlife Trust in financial support of Department of Forest, Dhanusha, M/s Parshuram Bricks Industry and M/s Mahavir Bricks Industry. Cobra was released in the enclosure in presence of everybody present during the occasion. It was really an exciting function for us as it is the first physical development in Dhanushadham Protected Forest. We hope this will give a new turn in development of proposed Dhanushadham Biological Unit. We are grateful to our supporters and well wishers and wish a very very happy and prosperous new year 2072.

Rescue of a Common Cobra from Mithileshwar Mauwahi-5, Dhanusha

On 02nd April 2015, we received a rescue call at 9:30AM from Mr. Ravindra Pandit, a local resident of Mithileshwar Mauwahi VDC. He requested to reach as much earlier as possible, mentioning that around 50 people have gathered around and they are trying to kill the snake. MWT Chairman rushed to the spot and searched for the snake. The snake was hiding in an old brick wall. It took little bit time to rescue the hiding snake, but we were able to save life of a speechless creature. Snake is around 5.5ft long Common Cobra (Naja naja) and is transported to Dhanushadham Protected Forest. MODEL PLOT CLEANING INSIDE DHANUSHADHAM PROTECTED FOREST

In the current financial year, we have received a program from Department of Forest, to clean shrub of 5 hectare area inside Dhanushadham Protected Forest. The aim is to clean shrubs of 5 hectare area and compare the natural germination and development of plant species in shrub clear and unclear area. There is countless germination of different plant species including Sal, Jamun, Amla, Siris, Sisam, Khayr and others. The above photo explains the natural germination power of this forest as other forests of Nepal. But, the fact is there is not even a single Two years or older tree, due to community made fire, over grazing and unmanaged mud cutting inside forest. Let’s hope that the conservation we have been able to provide to the forest with strong community support will be able to secure future of the forest. We are once again thanking the community people and stakeholders for their strong support and cooperation.

COMMUNITY INTERACTION PROGRAMME STARTED IN BUFFER ZONE OF DHANUSHADHAM PROTECTED FOREST

Department of Forest, Dhanusha and Mithila Wildlife Trust, Nepal together started Community Interaction Programme in buffer zone of Dhanushadham Protected Forest. The Programme has been started from Dharampur village and will be end at Nausay village. The programme is divided in 4 parts as under; Community share their feedback on the programmes operated in last financial year and their expectation in current financial year. Dhanushadham Protected Forest Council explains the programmes and budget for current financial year. Mithila Wildlife Trust explains the status of wild animals of the forest, expectations from community to protect them and methods to minimize human-wildlife conflict in the buffer zone. All the participants including council members and MWT members roam inside forest for 1 hour to see the changes inside forest after One year of conservation. Two programmes have been completed so far. All the valuable feedback and suggestions from community have been noted, so that, we can include them in future. Commitments of continuous support from local community really encourage us in conservation and development of the forest.

We are glad to share that our chairman, Mr. Dev Narayan Mandal has been selected as Future Leaders of the month February 2015, a part of the program Future Leaders, 2015. He got the chance to share entire concept of Dhanushadham Biological Unit. Future Leaders, 2015 is a unique program on Nepal Television (NTV Plus) hosted by Today’s Youth Asia, an initiative of Santosh Shah Foundation where they collect the person from rural area operating innovative projects to develop the entire nation. The programme will be broadcasting by NTV Plus on Saturday, 14th February 2015 (2nd Falgun, 2071) at 8:00 PM and will be repeated on Sunday, 15th February 2015 (3rd Falgun 2071) at 2:30PM.
