Sucker fish or Suckermouth Catfish (Hypostomus plecostomus), rescued from the pond of Mr. Hem Narayan Yadav, President of Ward No.-6, Dhanushadham Municipality, Dhanusha, Province No.-2, Nepal. The fish was handed over to be released in Dhanush pond inside Dhanushadham Protected Forest. Dhanush pond is basically used to protect indigenous fish and turtles of Terai region in Nepal.
This fish sucks small fishes and its’ thorny scales/fins injures other fishes in the pond. So, it’s an alarming sign for the fish farm owners of Janakpur region.
This fish has no value as food. So, its’ a humble request that, if you find this fish in your fish farming field, just catch it and release in the pond where no commercial fish farming is being carried out or kill it.
Finding of this fish species in the ponds of rural area of Janakpur is an alarming sign for all fish farm owners, so, the farmers need to be alert about this fish.
