One Nilghai (blue bull) met with an accident with an ambulance in Pushpvalpur Sector Forest area of East-West National Highway and both backside legs were broken. We treated the Blue Bill with help of our volunteer vet Dr. Shailendra Mandal, though we had limited sources with us. Surgery was required for the Blue Bull which facility was not available with us and we requested for the help from wildlife experts & well established organizations working for animals in Nepal. Same kind of treatment was given to protected animals in National Park but they couldn’t do it for this particular Blue bull.
A Blue Bull/ Nilghai cannot be important for entire country but it is quite important for the district like Dhanusha where no other wild animals can be sighted easily. Every tourist to Dhanushadham Protected Forest seems exited to see Nilghai in the forest, perhaps unavailability of other animals can be the reason.
Whenever animal rights issues are discussed in our country, we can read various articles in national media against it, stating that the country where not even basic rights of human beings are taken care, it is too earlier to discuss the Animal rights. They can be right on their part as the organization like UNHCR is also not able to work independently in our country. But the question is can we skip from our responsibilities to protect wild animals of the country? Won’t it be possible to construct a fully equipped veterinary hospital in our country where millions are spent organizing conferences in Five Star hotels? Is Blue bull not a part of our ecosystem?
Let’s hope that our government will take some positive initiatives to minimize such incidents in future.
जनवरी—२०१५ मा धनुषा जिल्लाको पुष्पवलपुर सेक्टर वन क्षेत्र भित्र पर्ने पूर्व पश्चिम राजमार्गमा एउटा पुरुष निलगाई, विरामी छोडेर आऊँदै गरेको एक एम्बुलेन्स सित ठोक्किएर निलगाईको पछाडीको दुईटै खुट्टा भाँचिन गयो । हामीले हाम्रा स्वम्सेवी भेट डा. शैलेन्द्र मण्डलको सहयोगमा उक्त निलगाईलाई हाम्रो सीमित स्रोत साधनको सहयोगमा साधारण उपचार ग¥यौ । निलगाईलाई शैल्यक्रियाको आवश्यकता थियो जसको लागी हामीले नेपालका मानिने विज्ञहरु सित सहयोगको गुहार पनि लगायौँ तर वहाँ सबै असमर्थ देखिए । संरक्षित जनावरहरुका लागी केही निकुञ्जहरुमा यस्ता उपचार भएको पाईए ता पनि यस निलगाईका लागी केही गर्न सकिएन । सिंगो मुलुकका लागी यो जनावर चासोको विषय नभए पनि धनुषा जिल्लाको लागी सँधै नै उत्सुकताको विषय हो । धनुषाधाम संरक्षित वनमा आउने प्रायः सबै पर्यटकले यसलाई हेर्ने इच्छा जाहीर गर्छन । सम्भवतः यस वनमा अर्को जनावर नभएर पनि यो यहाँको समुदायको चासोको विषय हुन सक्छ ।
हुन त जब हाम्रो देशमा जनावरको अधिकारको कुरा उठ्छ, नेपालका राष्ट्रिय मिडीयाहरुमा पनि यसको विरोधमा लेखहरु पढ्न मिली हाल्छन्, तर्क हुन्छ, मानव अधिकारका आधारभूत आवश्यकताहरु अबलम्बन गर्न नसकेको यस देशमा अहिले नै जनावर अधिकारको कुरा गर्नु धेरै जल्दी भयो । यू.एन.एच.सी.आर. जस्ता संस्थाले पनि स्वतन्त्रता पूर्वक का गर्न नसकेको परिवेषमा उनिहरुको आफ्ना तर्कहरु पनि जायज हुन सक्छन् । तर के यति मात्र भनि दिएर हामी आफ्ना जिम्मेवारीहरुबाट पञ्छिन सक्छौ ? के जनावर अधिकार सम्बन्धि पाँचतारे होटेलहरुमा कन्फेरेन्सका लागी अरबौ खर्चिने यस देशमा फूल फ्लेज्ड भेटेरिनरी होस्पिटल बनाउन सम्भब छैन् ? के निलगाई ईकोसिस्टमको हिस्सा होईन् ?
आफ्नो अथक प्रयासले पनि उक्त निलगाईलाई बचाँउन नसकेको मा हामी सबै दुःखी छौँ तै पनि आशा गर्दछौँ कि भविष्यमा यस्ता समस्याहरुको समाधान प्रति हाम्रा सरकारले उचित कदम चाल्ने छन् ।
